Kids Helping Kids (KHK) is an entirely student-run, official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by the Advanced Placement Economics students at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, California. They are a group of empowered students making a difference from the classroom to the community. The students share one common passion – to invest in the lives of children in need of support. Since inception, their actions have impacted more and more lives, essentially creating a ripple effect in our community and beyond. They are literally touching the lives of kids here in Santa Barbara and in other countries.
Heal the Ocean focuses on wastewater infrastructure – sewers and septic systems – as well as ocean dumping practices that have contributed to ocean pollution. They are focused on Santa Barbara County, but their methods are now serving as a model for other coastal communities across the country.
Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation is a Santa Barbara based non-profit foundation dedicated to providing a wide range of support for families with children suffering from cancer. The mission of the organization, founded by Nikki Katz after being inspired by a three-year old boy diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, is to ensure that children with cancer receive the undivided comfort of their parents during the treatment and recovery process.
Girls Incorporated of Greater Santa Barbara celebrates more than 50 years as an affiliate of an almost 150 year old national non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. Through educational, research-based programs, activities and advocacy, Girls Incorporated offers girls ages 4-1/2 to 18 years opportunities to experience success as they prepare to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Girls Inc. was recently ranked among the top high-impact youth service non-profits!
